Generally, we find discussions about multicamera workflows to revolve around the format needed to deliver to post and the encoding density of the system. You can review the encoding density of each Cinedeck platform here.

There are two key factors that have enabled Cinedeck’s success in the multicam studio space. The first is that Cinedecks create edit-ready media. This means that files that are encoded on Cinedeck can be picked up and edited right away. The second is that we can record directly across the network to shared storage. Again, this means a faster turn time since media doesn’t need to be copied from one location to another.

Here are the features that we often highlight when speaking to customers.

Feature

Description

Benefit

Edit-Ready Media

Record media that can be edited right away.

Record edit-ready media that doesn’t require transcoding at the end of the day in order to get the media into your NLE.

Network Recording

Record across the network to Shared Storage

File Accessibility: You don’t have to wait until the end of the record day to move the files to shared storage. Files are written directly to the storage space and ready for edit.

Segment Record

During recording, each time the user specified duration is reached or the manual ‘break’ button is pressed, the current file is closed and the next segment file begins. Previous segments can be fully-accessed for playing and copying, etc.

File Accessibility: Recording in segments lets you access segments before the record event finishes. For example if you need to edit social media packages from a 2-hr live concert, you can do so easily by breaking up the record in segments.

HiRes/Proxy Record per channel

Record a hi-res and proxy file per channel, then route each file type to a separate storage volume.

File Accessibility: By creating a matching proxy along with hi-res media, like when you’re doing 4K multicam, you can easily edit with the proxy, then match back to 4K

Edit While Captures

Edit growing files in your NLE.

  • Adobe Premier, supported formats include XDCAM in MOV and Op1A MXF and ProRes in MOV.

  • Avid Media Composer: requires Avid Media Central and is supported for Avid native formats

File Accessibility: Start editing your multicam footage in Premier or Media Composer

Grouped Record

Frame accurate recordfor one or more groups of channels on the same server, or across multiple servers.

User Experience: Having one user interface for record and playback be the central focus for the recordist.

Grouped Playback

Playback for one or more channels (ganged playback) is available. When a channel recording stops, play controls become available for playback control.

User Experience and Record Confidence

Gate check media one channels at a time, or group channels for multi-channel frame accurate playback

Local Backup Record

Record a redundant file to a local internal SSD independent of network health.

Record Confidence: If you’re network hiccups, you still have your recording because you have an independent encode going directly to a standard, removable 2.5” SSD (recommend Samsung EVO series)
